GTM Engineering Agency vs In-House GTM Engineer in 2026: The 12-Month Cost of Each
Disclosure: Haus Research has a commercial interest in Sales.co.
Four 2026 sources put a US GTM engineer's pay between $85,000 at entry level and $260,000 in total compensation, with the mean or median near $130,000. Two of the four figures come from agencies that sell the alternative to hiring. Twelve months of the published agency prices: The GTM Engineering Company $60,000, Sales.co $66,000, RevPartners $154,800 or more.
Hiring a GTM engineer and hiring a GTM engineering agency are bought with the same budget line, so we costed both over twelve months using published numbers only. Four sources put a US GTM engineer’s pay between $85,000 at entry level and $260,000 in total compensation, with the mean or median near $130,000. The agencies that publish a price cost $60,000 to $154,800 or more over the same twelve months.
One warning before the numbers. The salary figures are other people’s numbers; we did not survey anyone. Each is listed with where it comes from, and two of the four come from agencies that sell the alternative to hiring — DevCommX and demandDrive are both GTM agencies, and a hiring guide published by an agency is also that agency’s sales literature. We name the source on every figure so the reader can weigh it.

What the hire costs, by source
| Source | Figure for a US GTM engineer | What it is based on | Page dated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sloane Staffing | $100K to $180K base; $130K to $260K total compensation; reported median about $130K | A recruiter’s guide; it says it combines public salary data, an analysis of 1,000 live job postings and 2026 offers | July 9, 2026 |
| ZoomInfo | Mean $127,500; about $85,000 at entry level to $241,000 for senior roles | Cites Bloomberry’s analysis of 1,000 job postings | July 7, 2026 |
| DevCommX | Full-time hire: $140K to $200K a year plus benefits | An agency’s blog post; it says it analysed over 1,000 job postings | September 1, 2026 |
| demandDrive | $150K to $200K+ fully loaded | An agency’s service page; no method or period given, we read it as a year | Read October 11, 2026 |
The sources agree on the middle and differ at the top. Sloane Staffing says the median looks low, near $130K, because many openings are for a first or second GTM engineer, and puts senior roles at AI companies at $250K to $350K or more. Salary is only part of the cost of an employee: benefits, payroll taxes, tools and recruiting are extra. demandDrive’s $150K to $200K+ is the only fully loaded figure of the four, and it comes with no breakdown.
Twelve months of each
Agency prices were read from each vendor’s own pages on 11 October 2026.
| Option | 12-month cost | How we got it | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-house GTM engineer, base salary | $100,000 to $180,000 | Sloane Staffing | One full-time employee. Benefits, payroll taxes, tools and recruiting are extra |
| In-house GTM engineer, fully loaded | $150,000 to $200,000 or more | demandDrive | The same employee with the extras counted, by demandDrive’s figure |
| The GTM Engineering Company, Starter | $60,000 | 12 x $5,000 | Consulting at roughly 5 to 10 hours a week. It builds the system in your CRM; your team runs it |
| The GTM Engineering Company, Growth | $84,000 | 12 x $7,000 | Adds advanced Clay automation, campaign build-out and multi-channel outreach setup |
| Sales.co | $66,000 | 12 x $5,500 | Signals, list building, email to the whole market, cold calls, ads and LinkedIn to the highest-intent accounts, replies answered in under 10 minutes. Month-to-month, so 12 months is a choice |
| RevPartners, Allbound-as-a-Service | $154,800 or more | 12 x $12,900+ | Continuous strategy, campaign execution and optimization on HubSpot and Clay |
One more figure, with its source attached. DevCommX’s salary post gives its own range for agencies: $48K to $96K a year for what it calls “GTM Agency (Staff Aug)”. DevCommX does not publish its own price, so that range is its estimate for the market. The published prices of The GTM Engineering Company and Sales.co fall inside it, and RevPartners is above it.
The rows do not buy the same work
An employee and The GTM Engineering Company both build systems that your team then runs. Sales.co runs the outreach itself, across four channels, and does not leave an engineer inside your company. If the job you need done is keeping your CRM, routing and enrichment working every day, the agency prices above are not a like-for-like replacement for the hire.

When in-house is the better pick
demandDrive’s site says the hire fits when “GTM systems work is a continuous, full-time function at your stage (typically Series B+ with 15+ revenue-team members)”, when you can afford the fully loaded cost, and when a senior leader can manage the role. The work also goes past outbound: inbound routing, CRM data cleaning and scoring are daily jobs inside your own systems. Of the ten competitors we read, The Kiln and RevPartners take that kind of build as projects. Sales.co’s page does not list it. And when an agency runs the outreach, the people who know how it works are not on your payroll; Sales.co’s page says the client owns the data, with dashboards and exports, and does not mention handing over the software.
When an agency is the better pick
You are earlier than the stage demandDrive names, and The GTM Engineering Company says it builds for seed to Series B teams at $5,000 or $7,000 a month. You want outreach running and do not want to manage a hire, which is Sales.co’s whole package on a month-to-month term. Or you are not sure the work fills a full-time job: a salary is owed every month, three of the ten agencies state a first term of three to six months, and Sales.co has none.
About this report
We read the four salary pages on 11 October 2026 and each figure is presented as what its publisher states, with the date and the method where one is given. The agency prices come from the vendors’ own pages on the same date. Where a page states nothing, we wrote not stated rather than filling it from a directory or a review site.
