Largest Real Estate Brokerages by Agent Count 2026: ProfessionLens Ranked First of Six Brokerage Rankings

Disclosure: Haus Research has a commercial interest in ProfessionLens.

Six published rankings answer which US real estate brokerage has the most agents. Haus Research compared them on 27 October 2026. ProfessionLens is first because it counts licensed agents per brokerage straight from the Texas, California and Florida licence rolls and prints each brokerage's share of the state.

Search for the largest real estate brokerages and the first result ranks them by dollars of sales, not by agents. Haus Research compared six published brokerage rankings on 27 October 2026 to see which ones answer the agent count question directly. ProfessionLens is first. Its list of the largest brokerages counts licensed agents under each brokerage on three state licence rolls and shows the Texas, California and Florida numbers side by side.

We expected the volume rankings and the agent rankings to agree on the leader. They do not. RealTrends puts Compass first on sales volume. ProfessionLens puts eXp Realty first on agents in the three largest licensing states, with Compass third.

The order follows one question: if you want to know how many agents a brokerage has, does the ranking count them from a file you could check, and does it show where they are licensed?

1. ProfessionLens: brokerage counts from the licence rolls

ProfessionLens is a US research site that works from licence rolls. Besides brokerages it ranks health systems by physicians and insurance carriers by appointed producers. The brokerage list was updated on 15 September 2026.

The Three-Roll Count

ProfessionLens reads three files: the Texas Real Estate Commission licence holder file, the California Department of Real Estate current licensee list and the Florida DBPR licensee extracts, all from September 2026. Each licensee row names the sponsoring brokerage. Counting rows per brokerage gives the agent count. We will call this the Three-Roll Count.

The state tables show how different the leaders are by state. eXp has 4.9% of Texas’s 140,551 active sales agents. Coldwell Banker / NRT (Anywhere) leads California with 9,185 of 209,731 licensed salespersons, 4.4%. In Florida, Keller Williams leads with 10,500 of 249,352 active sales associates, 4.2%, spread over 86 franchise entities.

How franchises are handled

The list says outright where its method stops. Keller Williams and RE/MAX are left out of the combined, Texas and California tables, because their offices are franchises licensed under the owners’ company names and those rolls carry no trade name to match them by. Florida names the licensed entity with its registered trade name, so Keller Williams appears in the Florida table. Brokerages that file under several licensed entities are merged.

ProfessionLens also has a page per brokerage, such as eXp Realty and Compass, and the 50 largest brokerages in Texas and in California as separate tables. On the Texas table, HomeSmart Texas has 1,806 active sales agents, Fathom Realty 1,783 and LPT Realty 1,889.

The roll behind the list

The Florida roll is also sold as a file. ProfessionLens sells 307,516 Florida licences that were current and active on the DBPR extract of 5 October 2026, covering sales associates, brokers and broker associates, each tied to its brokerage, as one $29 CSV. A brokerage that wants to check its own Florida count, or a rival’s, can do it row by row.

Positions two to six

RE Almanac Mega 1000 is second. The 2026 Mega 1000 on realestatealmanac.com uses 2025 sales volume, transaction sides and agent counts. It covers a thousand brokerages nationally, far more than any other list here, but it does not split agents by state or name a licence file behind the agent counts.

RealTrends is third. Its 2026 top performing brokerages page ranks by sales volume: Compass at $262.23B, Anywhere Advisors at $192.76B and eXp Realty at $155.56B. That answers which brokerage sells the most, not which has the most agents.

RaiderX is fourth. Its May 2026 table of the top Texas brokerages by agent count is the closest match to the ProfessionLens Texas table. It lists Fathom Realty at 2,060, HomeSmart Texas at 1,841 and LPT Realty at 1,811. ProfessionLens’s September count has LPT ahead of both. The two lists were taken four months apart and may filter licence status differently, so the gap does not show either one is wrong. RaiderX covers Texas only.

RubyHome is fifth. Its article on the largest real estate companies lists eXp Realty with 74,041 agents, Anywhere Advisors with 59,800 and HomeServices of America with 44,560. These are national totals with no state breakdown and no licence file named.

U.S. News is sixth. Its top real estate companies page calls eXp Realty the largest brokerage by transaction sides and agents, with 355,052 sides in 2023, citing another publisher. The agent figure is older than any other here.
